FRAKTUR LOVE

I have a new series of prints for my lovelies, FRAKTUR LOVE. I started developing these designs for the inaugural TOFFIE POP Festival and Exhibition a few years back. TOFFIE POP 2012 is on from today until the 2nd April if you are lucky enough to be in Cape Town. There are 5 in the series.

MIE LOVE

How awesome is Slushy, the BOO!beloobie. He belongs to an entire forest of plushies made by MIE'S ARTS & CRAFTS. I just want to eat him like a snow cone. I love his colour palette, stripey pant and beautiful neat stitches. His friends include owls, pandas, tin men and foxes. I think they are waiting, just waiting to come home with you. Stocked by VAMP and online - Etsy.

BUNNY LOVE

Large plastic blow mould candy container, only ships to United States. Look at that store in the back ground, now where's that hyper speed undersea tunnel when you need it! A combo of vintage kitsch and no nonsense hardware store, my favourite and my best. Looks like they've thrown in some toys for good measure too and shiny tin stuff, I am hypnotised, I can't help it.

Ships Worldwide but out of my budget, two for the price of one though. It's nearly my birthday.....

MY MELODY LOVE

I have been a SANRIO freak since I was about 8 years old, mostly Hello Kitty but a few other little beasties as well. My Melody is up there on my list even though I would evoke the ire of Dick Bruna who feels that his beloved MIFFY fell prey to plagiarism. I am full of love for the MIFFY too and will post about that romance another day. Found this vintage darling on ebay, too pricey for my pocket but can't get enough of the simple red print on the blonde wood, eraser, co-ordinated red sharpener and the story on the pencils. Aaaah bless.

MIU MIU LOVE

Now I am a lifer as they say in the big house slang when it comes to MIU MIU. Have not laid my mitts on a high end Mag for a while, too much ebaying, so have not kept up with the fashion ads. Bought the latest Vanity Fair yesterday and am absolutely fixated on MIU MIU's Spring/Summer campaign with Mia Wasikowska. The pattern & colour combo and prim peasant gypsy eccentric bag lady elegance with a hint of Frida and The New Look, the oversized cameos and 70's style patchwork quilted leather, a hint of Carpathian mountain wickedness - is just too much for poor ol' me to handle. Can you cope?

SALVAGE LOVE

Rupert Blanchard of STYLING AND SALVAGE is my international furniture hero, I have many local ones so I need to differentiate. My first love is his hybrid chest of drawers but those require a whole post of their own, so I am doing a cart before the horse kind of thing but C'est la vie! Had a peep at his site last night and spied these beauties, aah my heart made an extra beat or two.

SKERMUNKIL LOVE

Spent a sublime afternoon at MARKET yesterday with so many gorgeous lady friends for Miss March's birthday celebrations. Now you know how much I love SKERMUNKIL to bits but did not realise quite how much the love is shared by the gals I know. Our book club that is not a book club bought the birthday beauty two of Marietjie's necklaces, part of the new range showcased at Design Indaba. How awesome is the new packaging and identity. Top marks!

So enjoy wrapping presents, this is what I did for Lois'.

MAGNOLIA LOVE

Here are some Magnolia Grandiflora studies I did for a private mosaic commission for JANE DU RAND. Part of a very large outdoor panel next to a swimming pool, composed of mainly plants that grow in and around water. I think in mosaic now while I draw. I used my Lamy calligraphic pen with Rotring drawing ink, diluted with water for the subtle areas. I draw directly in the ink without a pencil sketch to capture the looseness of my first lines. Normally the pencil is the purest line so I have gone directly to ink to keep that spontaneity.

BEARS AND A SWAN

Love this collection of vintage plastic bears on EBAY and the fierce face, feather detail, shape and colour of the swan. Many of the toys I covet, either celluloid or tin were manufactured in the old USSR.

VARDO LOVE

A Vardo is a traditional horse-drawn wagon used by the British Romani people(Gypsies). I am crazy mad for the interiors, a rich combination of craft, opulence and kitsch - display, collection and curation. Extravagance in a confined space. Practical and functional yet so beautiful. Sigh...

Joined PINTEREST a while back but have been focused on this blog, so trying to be good and starting to pin again.

WHERE IT'S AT

This was my illustration for a brief from Richard Hart of DISTURBANCE DESIGN, guest editor of the first issue of DESIGN INDABA's new concept publication. My partner in all things Scott Robertson features too (see below), as well as the craziness of our teeny studio space. My copy is still in the mail so will do a second post with more images later.

FATIMA LOVE

Watched some FTV the other day and caught the exquisite FATIMA LOPES Fall/Winter 2012 at Paris Fashion Week. There is nothing I love more than fancy goth! Beautiful feminine silhouettes, decadent millinery sauced with an undercurrent of venous system contemporary prints and the tension of restrictive corsetry. Snow White lost in the forest. The colour palette makes my knees weak. I would wear this every day (except for the fur).
