NEW GEOMETRY III

Found the amazing work of PHILLIP LOW via a detour from THUNDER IN OUR HEARTS to DESIGN SPONGE. Originally from Vancouver British Columbia, then fashion stylist in London, then BA at St Martins, then New York. He creates these futuretastic sculptures from acrylic, combining his skill in product design with his passion for fine art to create intense hyper modern sculpture. I was originally attracted to them as I thought they were really incredible illustrations but I think they are all photographs of the actual pieces. Looks like candy that Barbarella would eat in a 70's style Futurama or prisms used to trap the baddies in camp Superman or an engagement rock for a giantess.

Two recent acquisitions that delight me: gothic scooby wire brooch with gold transfer - EXHIBIT (Oslo Building, 400 Esther Roberts Rd, Glenwood) and vintage postcard - SOMETHING WOW (100 Bulwer Rd, Glenwood). Both of these stores will be moving to new premises shortly.

NEW GEOMETRY II

Love this gentle portrait by EMMA LEONARD, it combines so very nicely the bright geometry and monochrome pencil drawing. The eye mask make up reminds me of fierce first people war paint K HENDERSON and Michael Stipe.

NORDIC GIVEAWAY

It's Giveaway Thursday! Today I am giving away one of my NORDIC LOVE series, there are 4 to choose from out of what will be 6, including this gentle hairy albino reindeer. Many lovelies had a dingy 2011 with much sent to test their mettle and batter at their hearts so this print is to remind them (myself included) that we'll come out shiny in the end. All you need to do is leave a comment saying which you would like (polar bear, wolf, puffin or reindeer) on this post and I will do a random name draw for the winner. I will do the draw tomorrow afternoon so you need to be quick sticks! Stay Gold.

MILK GLASS LOVE

I have been obsessing over Milk Glass for a while now, it somehow was tangled up in my white ceramics phase that started mid way through last year and has now morphed into a fully fledged stalkerness. Originally called Opal Glass and made in Venice in the 16th century, the milky colour is achieved through the addition of bone ash or tin oxide. My favourites are the Fenton 'hobnail' pieces, apothecary and candy jars, brings out the 1950's bride in me.

Did some background info checking yesterday and am now completely ruined! I knew milk glass came in other colours but did not realise that one of those colours is my most absolute favourite 'Mary' blue. I am beside myself! Thanks to the exquisite pinboard of VANESSA for some of the images, others are from Etsy but I was too excited to keep track. I so desire a Westmoreland bunny in white, a Fenton bunny in blue and don't get me started on the chickens. It's my birthday in April you know.

MAROON LOVE

Now I may well have been the last person on the planet to see this video but in celebration of Valentino's Day please enjoy the lithe tattooed personage in tight pant, ladies and gentlemens. Plus as a note with regard to my recent series of bright geometric graphics - I be lovin' the M.

STRICK LIEZEL

Now I have a special place in my heart cupboard for turned wooden dollies and was looking to add a new batch to my (and Swan's collection). So imagine my delight at spying these lovelies - spool knitting dollies. French knitting is the term I had heard of but apparently the originals were German and called Strick Liesel, the American version is Knitting Nancy. All my images today are from spool knitter aficionado MARIAN CLARK. I like the cheesy plastic ones too.

PADDLE LOVE

Bought four of these beauties from the treasure trove that is the SPCA Charity shop. Because of the ball logo and Made in Mauritius I originally thought they were beach bats. But they are much too weighty for any kind of sandy frolics, could lay out a burglar in one swat and would result in a kaleidoscope bruise if one got saucy with them....blush. Turns out Chantecler is both the name of a breed of chicken and a poultry company based in Mauritius with the slogan "Sa ki bon sa!" which loosely translates to "This is good, this!" Shaver Starcross another breed of chicken/brand. Was unable to turn up any info on the Darmar logo on the back. As the Chantecler logo is very different from the present day label I am assuming that these paddles could be anywhere up to 40 years old and still in such mint condition. Display or use everyday oooh a conundrum!

LOBSTER & SWAN

Doing some reference gathering for an installation today and came upon this lovely site. Even the name is pure perfection! Lobster & Swan. The lady has a beautiful eye for composition, collage and craft - these are a few of my favourite things. It's that old magpie in me just cawing to get out.
